Skin Wound Models

Our skin is the first line of defense against both physical and chemical skin damage. The body is capable of closing skin injuries spontaneously in order to restore the protective function of the skin as quickly as possible. Biomimiq offers relevant human skin equivalents (HSEs) representing various human skin wounds to study the process of wound healing or to screen compounds directed at human skin wound healing or scar formation.

Modulating human skin wounds

Human skin wounds often have various causes and depths. We can mimic the wound of your interest by applying the relevant wound inducing physical or chemical treatment to otherwise healthy human skin equivalents (HSEs). These include scalp-induced cuts or liquid nitrogen-induced burn wounds, either resulting in superficial wounds that can be mimicked in both our Leiden Epidermal Model (LEM) and in our full-thickness model (FTM) or deeper dermal wounds, that can be mimicked best in our FTM.




Wound healing readouts

In vitro human skin wound models can be assessed by a myriad of readouts. Apart from our standard histology and immunohistochemistry quality control readouts, we also analyze relevant other parameters, including quantification of re-epithelialization and wound healing related cytokines excreted by the wounded skin cells. Through a cross-table approach, we can also study the contribution of dermal fibroblasts in the process of skin wound healing.
